David Tovey, GEM Programme Patron
David Tovey is a formerly homeless artist and activist. His story is deeply compelling. David has exhibited internationally in locations such as the Atsa Festival Montreal, Somerset House, Tate Modern and Tate Liverpool and he is also the founder of the UK’s first One Festival of Homeless arts.
David kicks off our first GEMshack – the homelessness GEM shack. His message is that it only takes one person to save someone’s life and he challenges all the GEMs to be that one person.
As an artist, David has explored housing concepts such as stigma with the GEMs by getting them drawing and painting in much the same way as he does with people experiencing homelessness at the Pilion Trust and Passage Day Centre.
