GEM World Housing Organisation

Launched in 2015 at the CIH Housing conference the GEM World Housing Organisation aims to give GEMs the opportunity to engage with Housing professionals internationally.

Current and former GEMs undertake research into social housing which has been presented to the International Housing Partnership for the last 5 years including:

  • Going Digital: digitalisation in housing across the IHP countries (2017)
  • The Future of Work and Leadership –  advancing the way we engage young talent in the world of housing and the changing ways we work  across the four countries (2016)
  • Managing and leading Generation Y in England, Australia, Canada and the USA (2015)
  • Talent Management and Succession in IHP Social Housing Organisations (Presented to delegates of the International Housing Partnership, 2013)

We have engaged with Housing professionals internationally and established links including:

Holland – Strong links with Holland’s Talent in Huis, including regular exchange programmes

Canada – with close connections we’re delighted to have hosted several GEMs from Canada and have offered opportunities for our UK based GEMs to visit Canada and learn from their practices

Hong Kong and Mainland China – we have well established networks in Hong Kong and mainland China and annually welcome students from the University of Hong Kong to visit Incommunities, home of the GEM Programme where they join our GEMs in GEMshacks and attend the CIH Housing conference in Manchester.

Australia – One year sabbatical opportunities have been made available for GEMs to work with Housing Associations in Australia

Northern Ireland – We work closely with the Northern Ireland Housing Executive and have welcomes GEMs from NI for in recent years. The NIHE also kindly hosts one of our annual GEMshacks.

Scotland – Wheatley Group is Scotland’s leading housing, care and property-management group and has been a part of the GEM Programme for over 4 years. As a valued partner Wheatley also host one of our GEMshacks – sharing their good practice and practical insights with our GEMs.
