For Employers

Since our foundation in 2009 we have always put the housing sector at the heart of what we do.

We know and understand the unique challenges you face and have designed the GEM Programme to help you recruit, develop and retain your talent. We help you discover and develop staff who recognise the opportunities and challenges we face as a sector. We get them ready for work which makes an impact on people’s lives, resilient to whatever’s thrown at them and questioning the status quo.

Unique to the sector, our industry specific GEM programme is supported by key players across social housing, homelessness and politics and delivered in partnership with specialists in housing and the built environment.

We offer an innovative self-development and career building programme customized to your organisation and personalised to the individual. We combine real life job experience with personal development including leadership development, psychometric testing and workplace mentors with a professional qualification accredited by the Chartered Institute of Housing.

Since the GEM Programme started in November 2009 we have:

  • recruited and developed nearly 300 graduates from diverse backgrounds, degree subjects and universities onto the GEM Programme and into housing sector roles
  • 164 GEMs have completed their CIH qualification since we became accredited in 2012
  • partnered with over 55 housing sector organisations and construction companies, nationally and internationally

We don’t just recruit for traditional housing roles as we believe that the diversity of each cohort of GEMs encourages peer learning between them. We recruit a limited number of GEMs per cohort to ensure the quality of the learning experience. Typically we recruit and develop staff across a range of roles including:

  • Housing Management
  • Community Involvement
  • Asset Management
  • Construction
  • Policy & Strategy
  • HR
  • ICT
  • Marketing & Communications
  • Customer Engagement
  • Finance
