Interested in becoming a GEM?

Housing is about more than just bricks and mortar! It’s about making a difference and improving the lives of people in their homes and neighbourhoods.

Since being set up in 2009 the GEM Programme has put the housing sector and the built environment at the heart of what we do.

We discover and develop individuals who understand the opportunities and challenges housing faces as a sector, graduates who will stand up to whatever’s thrown at them and want to work in organisations and roles which make an impact on people’s lives

We offer an integrated self-development and career building programme that combines real life job experience, bespoke personal development including personal leadership development sessions, psychometric testing and workplace mentors with a professional qualification accredited by the Chartered Institute of Housing.

Our industry specific programme is supported by key players across social housing, construction, homelessness and politics and is delivered in partnership with specialists in housing and the built environment.

Since the GEM Programme started in November 2009 we have:

  • supported nearly 300 graduates from diverse backgrounds, degree subjects, universities onto the programme into housing sector roles
  • 164 GEMs have completed their CIH qualification since we introduced it to the programme in 2012
  • Partnered with over 55 housing sector organisations, nationally and internationally
